Aqua Safe Swim School

The Aqua Safe Swim School is the vision of its owner, Gail Spivey. The 9000 square foot facility is not only a highly functional environment, it is also a work of art. There is an undersea mural, which depicts fish, dolphins and sea turtles and echoes the school''s tropical theme, that runs that the entire length of the 75'' pool.

The facility includes a snack bar, a pro shop, a play area and theater style seating behind the glass viewing wall to accommodate anxious yet proud parents comfortably while they watch over their children. The pool itself is only 4 feet deep and is kept at a consistent 90 degrees. It avoids the pungent odor of chlorine by using a saline sanitation system that eliminates red eyes, itchy skin, green hair and bothersome odor. It seems like no detail has been overlooked here.

The entire staff, fifteen instructors at present, are all red-cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certified, and Gail has hired an Aquatics Director, Julie Leibrand, who has been with the City of Scottsdale for the last 6 years to insure thing run safely and efficiently.

Gail''s own role will primarily be dealing with the business end of things, talking with parents, evaluating feedback and keeping the center “moving forward”. AquaSafe also has an alliance with Phoenix Children''s Hospital injury prevention center, who have trained her staff in safety related procedures.

Gail spent 16 years out in corporate America that included a stint as the National Safety Director for an oil company. However, that career did present certain challenges, not the least of which were the were the transfers to different parts of the country. These actually did not present much of an obstacle, that is until the kids came along.
