The WestWorld Trailhead
This facility, which has been described as a "boat launch" for horses provides a free facility where area residents can park their vehicles, "offload" their four-legged friends (or their bikes or even themselves) and access the existing (and soon to be expanded) system of trails and multiuse paths that radiate from the area
The Trailhead is set on 5.2 acres of property leased by the city from the (Federal) Bureau of Land Management and is located on the south side of lower McDowell Mountain Ranch Road and just on our side of WestWorld itself.
It consists of a Ranch house style restroom facility with an adjacent covered patio (see photos) that was designed to evoke the feel of the old west and to complement the visual image created by Brett's Barn which is situated across the wash from the site. In addition, there are two lighted arenas or enclosures (a.k.a. corrals) constructed with pipe rail fencing. The larger one is 150' x 250' and the smaller just 100' x 200'.
The facility was designed by the nationally renowned engineering consulting firm of Carter-Burgess Inc. and was constructed by the Valley Rain Construction Company. The entire facility was designed to have minimal impact on the environment. In fact, as Tim Starkey of Carter Burgess pointed out, the specs even required the granite parking areas to be constructed from material that was reclaimed from the construction process.
Just another nice reason that The Ranch is the best place to live in North Scottsdale.
